I feel the knead, the need to knead

I feel the knead, the need to knead.

A playlist to knead to, by the girl with the least cool/most inconsistent taste in music of anyone between the ages of 23 and 25.

Welcome to a playlist to accompany you while you knead the hours away. Influenced solely by my Mum’s CDs she keeps in the car, Year 8 discos and the Radio 1’s top 50 three years ago, I hope this playlist accompanies you through the emotional canoe ride that is kneading dough. Although you (hopefully) won’t be kneading for the actual length of this list, I hope to provide some variation for each new loaf. Good luck, happy kneading.

The first, and vital, stage of kneading your dough is to get that counter covered in flour. Pick your favourite baking surface and sprinkle it with gluten and affection.

  1.  L-O-V-E – Nat King Cole

Start it slow – you don’t want to get too stressed yet. Things might be sticky, and you’ve got a while to go, so keep it chilled, keep it groovy.Talkin bout a revolution –

2. Tracey Chapman

3. Cranes in the Sky – Solange

4. Trouble, You Can’t Fool Me – Ry Cooder

5. Top of the World – Carpenters

6. Unwritten – Natasha Bedingfield

You’re starting to get in a rhythm here. A bit more flour, a bit more action. As you start to get a few folds in, you can start to boogie.Where You Lead – Carole King

7 Lovely Day – Bill Withers

8. Killer Queen – Queen

9. You Can Call Me Al – Paul Simon

10. Does Your Mother Know – ABBA (Or Angel Eyes, for the more dedicated ABBA fans)

These next ones are only in here because each time I knead dough I cry/have a tantrum at this stage. It will be OK, even if you need to get your mum to knead for a minute or so.

11. Don’t Stop Believing – Journey

12. Beautiful – Christina Aguilera (This is only for really desperate times)

Now back to some nice boogs xx

13. Young Hearts Run Free – Candi Staton

14. Blow Your Mind – Dua Lipa

15. Le Freak – CHIC

The Last stage of this playlist could be also be the start of a break up/fuck you playlist, and that’s no accident. And there’s no way to release some anger whilst in the final stages of creating your favourite loaf then some pre-2010 pop.

16. Poker Face – Lady Gaga

17. Bootylicious – Destiny’s Child

18. Boy Does Nothing – Alesha Dixon

19. Broken Heels – Alexandra Burke

Now, while you clean up your mess, wipe away the tears and leave your floury, elastic, golden baby to prove and rise, end your knead by letting your loaf (and yourself) know that it’s appreciated.

20 This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) – Natalie Cole
